Who are you?

Psychology says: love yourself. Philosophy, know yourself. Law is for the agreements we make with the Other. Religion says: you’re not alone. Science tries to explain Chaos and that you may be alone in it. Medicine looks at your body. Art is the safest place to contain your illnesses. All areas of knowledge looking at different aspects of one single problem: understanding.

Understanding why are you here, what is here, what are you meant to do here and who are you. And who is the Other, why is the Other here and their role. Here, in this precise space and time in which you have connected.

Psychology says: deconstruct your feelings. It says: look your feelings, what has triggered them, what thoughts did you have just before they were triggered or after they were triggered. Look at when was the first time you started having those thoughts, and what is the validity of those thoughts when you check your present situation. Finally, it goes down to examine what makes you feel good without guilt, and why, and what makes you feel sad and without hope, and why. There’s a compass, it says, that if you listen well, it will indicate the right course of action. See if there are feelings there to which you are reacting and if your reactions do not follow who you consider being. Check your rapport with the Other(s). See if the Other is bringing the best in you or quite the opposite. Leave when the relationship is toxic no matter how much you believe you love the Other. Love should not hurt. Dependency does.

Philosophy says: deconstruct your thoughts. Examine your place in the world: your sex, and your culture. Then look at your family, at your socioeconomic position, at your country. What about your language, the vocabulary you know and the one you never use? See what you learnt from all of that and see if there are learnings in there that do not follow who you think you are and if you should change them. Define your own moral code. Act accordingly to your own moral code, where you understand the consequences of your actions.

Law is a collective construction of the limits of our freedom in relationship with the Other’s freedom. Law is the product of a given society in a given time. Law changes as the society and the times change. Law is not meant to restrain kindness.

Mens sana in corpore sano. Your mind lives in your body. You came to this world in the shape of your body, and that’s all you have. If life means anything to you, love your body. Treat it well. Keep it healthy. Your mind will appreciate it too.

All tend to Chaos. Chaos is your depression; your anxiety and overreaction. Chaos is your rage and your laziness. Your laziness in not healthily treating your body, your negligence in not healthily treating your mind, your stupidity in not making the effort of being patient instead of following your fear. Your procrastination in being a coward and asking the Other what should you think instead of thinking by yourself. Chaos is your postponing of the things you then feel guilty about postponing. Chaos is your ignorance, your unwillingness to keep an open mind, your carelessness repeating the same mistake without learning from it.

There might be nothing else than Chaos, no other meaning. There may be no God. You may be lazy believing there is a God who knows it all and who can do everything and who is always benevolent.

Alternative thinking could be: what if all the answers are in your own self? What if everything you want to do is in your individual capacities? What if you can choose to be the one who is always good to the Other(s) and to yourself? Maybe that is what “God is in yourself” means? Perhaps that is the only truth and the only brave thing to do, although treating oneself and others with love is what requires most effort? So maybe go and find the answers, find what you want to do and do all of that while treating yourself and others in the best possible manner?

When you find answers, you will finally have a Voice. Your voice will come out through your Art. Art is what you create. Your body is your Art, your mind is your Art. Your home is your Art, your relationship with the Other is your Art, your child is your Art. Your faeces is your Art. Your work is your Art, your Art is your Art, You are your Art.

And maybe then you’ll understand.
